Here is an excerpt of Abraham Lincoln’s speech in Lyceum, Springfield, on January 27, 1838. It parallels today’s reality with amazing similarity.
“At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. I hope I am over wary; but if I am not, there is, even now, something of ill-omen amongst us. I mean the increasing disregard for law which pervades the country; the growing disposition to substitute the wild and furious passions, in lieu of the sober judgement of Courts; and the worse than savage mobs, for the executive ministers of justice. This disposition is awfully fearful in any community; and that it now exists in ours, though grating to our feelings to admit, it would be a violation of truth, and an insult to our intelligence, to deny. Accounts of outrages committed by mobs, form the every-day news of the times. They have pervaded the country, from New England to Louisiana.”
One of Abraham Lincoln’s first major speeches, the Lyceum Address, was a warning to America that rings true today. Our 16th president, was prophetic. He recognized the threat to our Nation not from external forces but from within our country, “If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher.” Think on that incredibly compelling observation. Lincoln cited examples of lawlessness permeating the country and cautioned of dire consequences to its perpetuation by politicians and others with their own grand agendas.
Lincoln warned, “the innocent, those who have set their faces against the violations of law in every shape, alike with the guilty, fall victims to the ravages of mob law, and thus it goes on, step by step, ‘till all the walls erected for the defense of the persons and property of individuals are trodden down, and disregarded.” If government did not step in to regain order, he further warned, “By such examples, by instances of the perpetrators of such acts going unpunished, the lawless in spirit, are encouraged to become lawless in practice; and having been used to no restraint, but dread of punishment, they thus become, absolutely unrestrained. Having ever regarded government as their deadliest bane, they make a jubilee of the suspension of its operation; and pray for nothing so much, as its total annihilation.”
We have already seen this with the ANTIFA and BLM mobs attacking police without fear of consequence. We have witnessed businesses looted and burned down, people’s livelihoods destroyed and innocent people targeted and killed, while Democrat Mayors order police to stand down and those few who are arrested, are almost immediately released by local Democrat DAs refusing to prosecute them.
Everyday we see headlines of a Blue Tsunami coming to wash away the stain of Trump’s presidency. That Biden is up by 20 points. That Biden has over a 90% of winning. At the same time we see Democrat politicians continue to insinuate that President Trump’s first term is illegitimate and that a Biden loss should NOT be accepted by Biden and his supporters. That the only way for Trump to win is by cheating, again! Do you see what’s happening? The Democrats and their mouth piece, the presstitute media, are planting the seeds for more mindless mob violence should Biden lose the election.
Good people today doubt local government’s resolve in protecting life and property, maintaining law and order, and performing their duties. It is easy to see why law abiding citizens are arming themselves in numbers never seen before. Lincoln warned us of the consequences of not enforcing law and order; We are seeing it play out in our time. Unless we see a quick reversal and swift prosecution of those who destroy, loot, intimidate, and kill, we will soon reach “critical mass.” When this happens, blood will spill in a scale not seen since Lincoln’s time. Let’s heed Lincoln’s warning before it’s too late. We must demand law and order. We must see the prosecution of law breakers. We must hold accountable those who promote false, divisive and destructive narratives, even if just for ratings on TV. Law and order is the only way to bring stability, prosperity, and peace to our society. Anything else is inadequate.
