If you really want to understand what is going on in our country today and see how it all began, read the biography titled “U.S. Grant” life and legacy, by Dr Paul Graig Roberts. It is a scholarly book and a must read. It clearly illustrates why General and President, Ulysses S. Grant (1868-1876) is the source of all our political strife today. Grant was the architect of the post Civil War Reconstruction and created the legal/political system strangling America today. In brief, the slaves were freed creating a majority of blacks in many Southern states and when they got the right to vote trouble soon followed. The newly freed blacks, along with Republican whites, practically took over the Southern governments with their majority vote and upset the balance of power. As a consequence, a war of terror to keep the blacks and Republicans from voting erupted.
It was a blood bath when the white Democrat militias terrorized the blacks & White Republicans to keep them from voting or in retaliation. There were no police to protect them and the only authorities came from Federal troops making Grant the de facto black’s protector. When Grant left office in 1876, he stated that all those people that died in the Civil War “died for nothing” because by 1876, the Democrats were back in power with more power than ever and the only thing the Civil War accomplished was, to end the moral dilemma of slavery at the expense of blood and treasure, but also creating a serfdom for blacks. Grant said this could have all been avoided if there had been some way to manage black voting power for at least the time being like the 3-5 rule in the Constitution, the compromise solution to count three out of every five slaves as people for this purpose. Its effect was to give the Southern states a third more seats in Congress and a third more electoral votes than if slaves had been ignored, but fewer than if slaves as free people had been counted equally. Get the book, it is a lesson in American political/economic history. In Grant’s defense, he was a hard-money man and professed the gold standard. Grant Worked hard to end the public debt to protect the soundness of the money and end the green back currency. My point is people need to know history. History will tell you where we come from and where we could be headed, because if history is an example, when the militias have had enough of what is going on like right now, things can really get ugly. No police = militias. It’s one or the other. Law and order or criminal gangs and vigilantes.
