The Student Religious Liberties Act he authored was passed into law to safeguard the right of students to pray in school. He introduced the Firearms Freedom Protection Act to protect against federal encroachment on our Second Amendment rights. He has fought for our privacy by sponsoring legislation to allow citizens to opt out of requirements to provide personal information for use in a government database. My guest this week brings us an update to the story of one of those officers who are being persecuted by an overzealous prosecutor for no sound reason. Her husband, Alabama police officer Ben Darby, was a well-trained Huntsville police officer who was forced to make a difficult split-second decision while responding to a dangerous 911 call. The situation was cleared by the Incident Review Board, and Ben’s actions were deemed justified. It was determined that he followed all applicable policies and laws. However, soon after Ben was cleared, the Madison County District Attorney began to use him and his case as a political football. Ben was sentenced to 25 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He was not eligible for an appeal bond due to the excessive sentence he was given. He is still stuck serving prison time day-for-day. Keelin Darby has been married to Ben for 5 years. She has been a police sergeant in a North Alabama department for 6 years. She also serves on her department’s swat team. She’s a Christian, who loves her country and is honored to wear blue. In early 2021, 11 Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets were commissioned as officers in the U.S. Air Force, and had prepared to fulfill their call to serve our great nation. Yet, instead of welcoming them this administration repaid them by severely hindering their careers and the ability to provide for their families. These highly qualified officers were trapped for TWO YEARS in an unmoving bureaucracy due to the unethical enforcement of COVID-19 vaccine mandates for military personnel. Each of the eleven officers filed for religious exemptions, but they were DENIED that right. They have just NOW been placed on active duty, but are still fighting with the Biden administration to reclaim the last years of their lives.
